NDP: Black Ops Is The Best Selling Game In The History Of The United States

Well, it was not long.

According to new data released Thursday, sales tracking firm NPD Group, Activision's blockbuster first-person Call of Duty: Black Ops is now the best selling video game ever released in the U.S.

"Call of Duty Ops. Black has been the best selling game in February, keeping the most sold since its launch in November, became the best selling game in history, surpassing Wii Play, NPD said Anita Frazier.

Activision has not yet been officially released their Black Ops are the same, but the NPD give it to 13.7 million units sold in the U.S. (NPD, even if it does not count sales at Wal-Mart, which is probably a bit 'small). This value actually exceeds the Nintendo Wii Play, which sold just over 13 million copies have been, since its publication in February 2007. Black Ops above that number is only four months, in a word stunning.

But this is not entirely surprising.

The game launch day sales broke records by winning more than $ 360 million over the first 24 hours of availability. Four days later, that number will increase to $ 650 million, setting a five-day entertainment sales record, too. About a month later, he has $ 1 billion, surpassed only by the 3D avatar as the fastest to reach that plateau.

Where Black Ops accumulating in the world? No word yet if the current world record holder is Wii Sports, which at last count had sold over 75 million copies in all regions. Some say the figure is a little busy, however, since the game has been sold mainly as a package in the title of the Wii console itself (which can be applied to Wii Play, and its sales were undoubtedly strengthened to be included with the Wii Remote.) However, unlike Wii Sports and Wii Play, Black Ops has been released on multiple systems, which gives a clear advantage over specific console exclusive sales.

February is not just a big month for Call of Duty. Overall, sales of games have been the strongest have been for years, with revenues grew 4 percent year over year.
